Blood on Silk: Interview with Marie Treanor

I am lucky enough to know Marie Treanor and her writing from my e-pub days, and I know her books are lush, sophisticated, and definitely for grown-ups.  Fresh Fiction recently raved:  “BLOOD ON SILK is a vampire romance for the intelligent reader… I can’t wait to read the second book in the series. Marie Treanor is definitely a new author to watch.”

Her new release from Signet Eclipse, BLOOD ON SILK, promises to be vintage Treanor and I’m *so* excited about this new series :) And without further ado, Marie Treanor and BLOOD ON SILK!

 Bio:

Marie Treanor lives in Scotland with her eccentric husband and three much-too-smart children. Having grown bored with city life, she resides these days in a picturesque village by the sea where she is lucky enough to enjoy herself avoiding housework and writing stories of romance and fantasy.

 Book Blurb:

The debut of a seductive new contemporary series of vampires, lust, and revenge.

Scottish academic Elizabeth Silk is spending the summer in Romania researching historical superstitions for her PhD. While she is tracing local folktales, one subject in particular sparks her imagination. His name is Saloman, legend’s most powerful vampire, a seductive prince staked centuries ago. Now, in the ruins of a castle crypt, Elizabeth discovers the legends are real. Her blood has awakened him. Her innocence has aroused him. But Elizabeth unleashes more than Saloman’s hunger.

An army of vampire hunters has amassed to send Saloman back to hell. Sworn to help – yet fearing Saloman’s deadly blood lust – Elizabeth seeks to entrap him, offering her body as bait. But something stronger than dread, more powerful than revenge, is uniting Elizabeth to her prey. Caught between desire and rage, Elizabeth must decide where her loyalties lie…and what the limits are to a yearning she can no longer control.

Three Questions for Marie Treanor

1.  Please describe Blood on Silk – what kind of book is it and what is the premise?

Blood on Silk is a steamy vampire romance, the first of a trilogy of books called Awakened by Blood.

The premise is basically that researcher Elizabeth Silk, who is making her academic reputation rationalizing vampire myths, accidentally awakens an Ancient vampire! Unfortunately, Saloman is also the most powerful vampire who ever existed and he’s out for revenge on those who betrayed and staked him 300 years ago. He also needs the blood of his Awakener to reach full strength, so Elizabeth has to resist rather more than overwhelming physical attraction to him! Thrust into a dangerous new world where all kinds of vampires want to kill her, and her only allies are the vampire hunters who use her as bait, Elizabeth has to learn fast how to take care of herself, and decide who she can trust.

2.  You are extensively e-published – how is print publishing different from epublishing and does success in one medium translate well to the other?

I haven’t found print publishing so very different so far. The editing process varies a little from what I’ve been used to, but boils down to the same thing. The main difference for me has been in discussing the story beforehand with my editor – which means I have to plan better and give up pantster-ing. :)

As to success, it’s too early to say. My fingers are crossed! But I know I’m reaching some new readers….

3.  What draws you to write paranormal romance?  What’s coming up next in the series?

Hmmm – I think the fact that it covers so much ground! The only limit is my imagination and it’s fun to see what it will come up with next. Also, I often mix-up my genres, even within one story, and paranormal lends itself to that very well. I like to have a  little fantasy, time-travel, science fiction, mystery, suspense, or historical romance, cropping up among the paranormal.

Next in this series is Blood Sin, where Elizabeth and Saloman will find themselves working together against a mutual enemy for possession of a powerful sword. There’ll be some old friends and some new characters cropping up, and as Elizabeth gets to know Saloman better, she has some more difficult decisions to make that could affect the good of the world.

Thank you Marie!

I am sure it is…I still have it in the queue (I have been run ragged this month, unfortunately!) but I am looking forward to reading it. I really enjoyed Marie’s SOME OTHER SEA and expect another great read in BLOOD ON SILK.

Oh thank you, Valerie! I’m so glad you enjoyed it :) And did I say Book 2, BLOOD SIN was out in April 2011? :)

Michele, thanks so much for interviewing me! And I’m not surprised you’re run ragged. Thanks for remembering Some Other Sea – still wondering what to do with that one!
