  • Opportunity for Aspiring Writers — I-Con

I-Con, one of the largest SF cons in the USA, is happening at SUNY Stony Brook from April 4-6 this year.  I went last year and had a great time…highly recommend it for all lovers of the fantastic.

This year, I-Con is sponsoring an intensive writing workshop for aspiring writers:

ARE YOU A FUTURE HUGO© OR NEBULA© AWARD WINNER?***Attention Aspiring Writers***Announcing the Return of the ICON Writers WorkshopThe Author’s track is proud to offer you a chance to have your work critiqued by professionals.  Coordinator Terry McGarry, James Macdonald, Debra Doyle and Ann VanderMeer will analyze your short story in two ninety minute sessions during ICON 27.  Participation is strictly limited to five writers.  Fantasy or science fiction stories must be submitted by email only, in MS Word format, double spaced, with a maximum length of 5000 words.  The deadline for submissions is February 15, 2008. NOTE: you must be available both Saturday and Sunday to participate in the workshop.  Please send to authors@iconsf.org  with the words “Writer’s Workshop” in the subject header.  Participant confirmation will be sent by March 5, 2008.  Submission implies your permission to provide your story to all workshop participants

I wish you could be there too…it would be so great to meet you in person!

Are you going to RWA Nationals this year? RT? Hope our paths cross soon…

    3. Sarai Says:

Nothing this year, I am attempting to save up money to join RWA and then I will see about the conferences. I am hoping to go to something later on but *le sigh* money is super tight with the “dog” issues (summary: husband buys dog, dog chews through pipe floods apartment, dog has to be spaded soon or we will have issue at apartment) The problems never end ;)

    4. Sarai Says:

Well geez I thought I answered your question yesterday but it didn’t post. Sorry… I am not able to travel this year due to money (my dog flooded the apartment) and time off from work. But by golly molly I am going to try really hard next year to get out and about!

    5. Sarai Says:

Huh well I guess I did I don’t care for the ghost in the machines they mess with us too much ;)

    6. admin Says:

LOL…I swear my computer has gremlins :)

I have two demented cats that wreak their destruction all over my house, so I feel your pain, Sarai…It would be so wonderful to see you at one of these cons. Soon, I hope!
